Langtang Valley lies directly north of Kathmandu on the border with Tibet. Surrounded by high peaks, it provides magnificent mountains scenery with few of the crowds that are encountered on same trails in the Annapurna and Everest regions. The walk-in is picturesque with untouched forests and abundant flora and fauna. Then, as we approach the top end of the valley the scenery opens out to provide breathtaking views of the peaks including Langtang Lirung and Langshisa Ri. Camping beyond the last village, there is time to ascend many of the spectacular viewpoints including Yala Peak and Tsherko Ri Peak to get even closer to the big peaks.
We exit the valley over the spectacular and little used Ganja-La before descending into Helambu and then the outskirts of Kathmandu. To cross to Helambu, through the Langtang and Surya kund or the Ganja La pass is serious undertaking requiring good equipment. An energetic and rewarding three week itinerary for those wanting something a little different.
